What lengths am I willing to go in order to do right by every child?
My game plan to do right by every child is to make sure they are offered equal opportunities, educate myself on all my students and their families, and make sure my teaching is culturally responsive. My students will be offered equal opportunities by giving them the freedom to express themselves in their school work, they will be encouraged to express themselves with their culture and their beliefs, and will have the same expectations when given an assignment. I will go out of my way to become familiar with my students backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences. This will encourage your students and their families to feel safe, respected, and understood by you as their teacher.
According to, “3 tips to make any lesson more culturally responsive” the biggest things are to Gamify it, Make it social, and Storify it. Truly I believe the first and most important step would be to truly understand the definition of culturally responsive teaching which is knowing how to teach to your students “cultural learning styles and tools” not just specifically their race. Gamifying our lessons will grab the attention of our students and will cause their brain to begin thinking about the information being taught. We want to do this to make sure our students are getting all the information and are comprehending said information. Making your lessons social will create a classroom community because students will have to become familiar with their peers, communicate with them, and ultimately learn from them. When it comes to a lesson, creating a story or “Storifying it” will help students retain the information being taught because stories are often easily remembered, rather than when someone is just giving you a bunch of information at once.
